ORCHIDS
The symbol of love, luxury and beauty

They've been cherished throughout the ages as a symbol of love, luxury and beauty. Even today, orchids capture the attention and imagination of people across the world like no other flower. Who could resist such elegance?

Orchids make an exquisite gift for someone special or a delightful ornament to display around the home. Their blooms are long lasting and will continue to add charm to a room for weeks, much longer than a bunch of cut flowers.

Our beautiful orchids come in a variety of colours and are presented in a choice of ceramic, bamboo and terracotta pots. We take particular care to dispatch our orchids in a clear protective plastic sleeve to ensure the flowers and buds arrive in the perfect condition.

Did you know? At the peak of their early popularity, orchids (the symbol of love) were considered to be an aphrodisiac. The juice of their blooms was commonly used as a key ingredient in particular love potions and even added to ice cream! Try that one at your own risk!
Caring for your Orchid
  • For indoor growing, place your orchid in a bright position close to a window but out of direct sunlight. If this is not possible, close to a florescent light can promote the desired growing conditions.
  • Orchids like warm conditions. When night time temperatures are low, move the plant away from the window before you go to bed to protect them from excessive exposure to cold.
  • Orchids like moist air. At times when the atmosphere is dry, keep an atomizer handy and give the plant a quick misting from time to time.
  • Orchids need good air circulation. Open the windows when the conditions are warm or place a fan in the room to keep the air moving.
  • When watering, use warm water and give the plant a good drenching. Let the roots and mix dry out completely between drinks to avoid over-watering.
  • Orchids like to be fed but prefer to be under-fertilised than over-fertilised. Over-fertilising can make the plants limp and weak. Only fertilise when the plants appear to be actively growing and use a liquid product formulated especially for orchids according to directions on the label. When they stop growing, stop fertilising.
  • When you orchid has finished flowering, take it outside and keep it in a bright, airy, protected position under the shade under a tree, covered pergola or shade house. Your orchid will thrive in this position with little effort and you can bring it inside to enjoy the blooms as they form year after year.
